A relatively realistic replication of the 3.5 Litre, 24-Valve M88/1 Inline-6 engine found in the 1979 BMW M1 Procar.
I love the M1 and it's by far my favorite classic BMW, and this engine sounds fantastic thanks to the Individual Throttle Bodies (ITBs), throaty exhaust note and the almost 9000rpm rev limiter. Credit to GearheadLydia for the original "base" engine build that I used, their Nissan RB20DET.
This thing is way over spec, and unrestricted can push upwards of 560 horsepower, which is way over the 470 that is claimed for the real engine, so I had to detune it as much as I could. It's still over spec making just over 500 horsepower, but it's much more manageable and authentic. By the way, 1st gear is quite short and typically is only used in the pit lane, so during racing M1 drivers typically only downshift up to 2nd in slower corners.
If you want to have the best experience, PLEASE use the clutch when shifting and try heel-toe downshifting using the keyboard. This particular engine is great for practicing that and it's overall really entertaining. If you want more details I left some comments in the code with some explanations and references.
I also have a custom color palette and theme, which you can download HERE.
Thanks, have fun!
