This engine was built under licence in Britain by Nuffield Mechanizations and Aero, for all intents and purposes a Liberty L12.....just it was built in a Nuffield factory and put into a tank

The Nuffield-Liberty L12 was the engine used in the British A15 Crusader tank, this vehicle is well known for its reliability issues during the desert campaign. (this was down to the air filters getting clogged with sand). Despite this it was a worthy opponent to the German Panzer III's and IV's. early variants mounted a 2-pounder gun and a machine gun turret on the front but after Crusader III the turret was replaced with a hatch and it was up-gunned to the 6-pounder.

It would later see use during Operation Overlord (D-Day) as an SPAA (Self-Propelled Anti-Air) It would be succeeded by A27 Cromwell.
