[Updated on 02 May 2023] I did not really want to code this engine because I have enough both W and 16 cylinder engines done, so I thought this will be just a combination of those. But diving into late 90s - early 00s VW projects I decided to give it a try. This engine turned out to be interesting, mostly because of how it sounds on a real Veyron and also because its firing order and the crankshaft layout are rather unconventional. I expected it to be a bigger split-crank brother of VW 6.0 W12 which debuted on VW Nardo concept and later used in luxury segment of VAG, and also expected that consequentially it has a conventional 2-4-2 inline-8 single bank firing order like 1-6-2-5-8-3-7-4 and the second bank is the same but 90 + 360 degrees later, basically the same idea as VW W12. In reality it is completely different, there are no splin-pins and there is no 2-4-2 crank layout. I am really surprised that I replicated that unique Veyron V12-ish exhaust note, I was always curious why this engine sounds more like V12 and almost nothing like V16. I guess this is due to complex exhaust manifold layout which included quad-turbo and the firing order itself. Engine Sim does not support any type of forced induction, so power figures are not accurate and represent a NA version of this engine.
